Customs inspection after import

Step by step

1. Purchase and transport. Get full papers from the seller: foreign registration, invoice, service book and any COC document.
2. Customs inspection. The car must be customs-inspected at an approved test centre, which reports to DMR.
3. Tax assessment. The Motor Agency sets the taxable value. You pay registration tax and VAT.
4. Registration in DMR. Once tax is paid, the car can be registered with Danish plates.

When is customs inspection not required?

• Car is under 4 years old and has a valid EU type approval.
• Importing an unregistered new vehicle with COC.
