Customs inspection after import
What is required when importing a vehicle, and when does it need a customs inspection?
Step by step
- Purchase and transport. Get full papers from the seller: foreign registration, invoice, service book and any COC document.
- Customs inspection. The car must be customs-inspected at an approved test centre, which reports to DMR.
- Tax assessment. The Motor Agency sets the taxable value. You pay registration tax and VAT.
- Registration in DMR. Once tax is paid, the car can be registered with Danish plates.
When is customs inspection not required?
- Car is under 4 years old and has a valid EU type approval.
- Importing an unregistered new vehicle with COC.
